Ki(tt/dd)ies
You know how sometimes kittens and puppies sound like little kids when they yelp and cry? Well, there are a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood, so it’s not unusual to hear an occasional crying kitten outside.
I happened to be home this morning, waiting on People’s Gas to come by and inspect our meters, and became aware of pretty loud and insistent distress cry out front. It continued for a couple minutes, growing louder, so I went over to the window to see if I could spot the distressed kitting. Instead, there was a toddler walking down the sidewalk, meowing at the black cat that sometimes lives in our bushes. The cat was back its way down the sidewalk, about 20 feet from the kid, who was slowly approaching, making a sound that probably had the cat both confused and on alert.
The cat finally bolted as the little girl got about 10 feet away, and the kid’s mom called her back in the other direction.
