kottke.org: Whiskey on the rocks. Literally!

jkottke:

Sipping Stones are small stones that you put into your drink instead of ice. Gives new meaning to “on the rocks”!!! LOL LMAO ROFLCOPTER, etc.

When enjoying a premium spirit, why tarnish the taste with water? Providing a slight chill protects the taste without drowning the quality.

Sipping…

Sigh. These things just won’t go away.

Here’s a very good reason to add a little water to your whiskey: There are flavors in the whiskey that are water soluble, and adding a little water helps your tongue taste them. On the flip side, there’s also a good reason not to chill your whiskey: cold causes the volatile compounds in the whiskey to become less active, effectively hiding some of the flavor of the whiskey from your nose, so you actually taste less.

So by all means, if you don’t enjoy tasting your drink, buy these rocks. Or just go get some vodka, it’s cheaper.
